Your gas fireplace has been hard at work for several months now. Whether our winter was deemed severe or mild, your gas fireplace undoubtedly got a pretty good workout over the winter. Its many hours of use inevitably exacted some toll on your appliance and chimney system.
At Northeastern Fireplace & Design, we recommend a post-winter checkup. We know from years of wintry experience that it makes good sense to have your gas fireplace inspected and cleaned as spring bursts forth. Make an appointment now to have us take a thorough look at your gas fireplace and its venting system.
What sort of things might we assess and evaluate?
First of all, keep in mind that a gas fireplace involves low maintenance, but that’s not the same as no maintenance. Think about it: your gas-fueled fireplace is a combustion appliance. Combustion inevitably has after-effects. Even though natural gas is a relatively clean-burning fuel source, it is not absent of combustion by-products. These include some amount of residual soot and creosote. After a winter’s worth of work, your gas-fueled appliance needs to be checked for any soot or creosote buildup. Plus, all your vents, fittings, damper and flue should be checked for possible carbon monoxide leaks. Now is as good a time as any, after all this repeated usage. In fact, now is an optimum time to check your gas fireplace and all its appurtenances.
You’ll want to be sure the glass doors are properly cleaned and that dampers and flues are all operating properly. Have our professional technician verify that ceramic logs are properly cleaned, too. While we’re at it, let us check and clean your gas fireplace burner ports, log positioning and pilot light as well.
Spring is also an excellent time to have Northeastern Fireplace & Design’s associates inspect your chimney system to make sure there is proper airflow free from obstructions, especially from any nesting from unwanted squirrels, birds, bats, owls, etc..
