All About Scotia
Scotia is a village on the bank of the Mohawk River in Schenectady County and part of Glenville. Scotia, incorporated in 1904, served as a military camp in both the French and Indian war of 1754 and the War of 1812.
Throughout history as well as today, life in Scotia was centered on the Mohawk River. The U.S. Water Ski Show Team makes its home in Scotia. The fishing has always been excellent in the Mohawk and there are boat launches as well as spots for picnicking and observing nature along the riverbanks.
Collins Lake is located in Scotia on the flood plain of the Mohawk. The area of the Mohawk closest to Scotia features Collins Park, Freedom Park, the Glen Sanders Mansion and a small business district.
Community spirit is one of Scotia’s finest attributes. Community garage sales with over 20 households participating, free community concerts at the Freedom Park Amphitheatre and fundraisers to benefit area children connect residents.
The Empire State Aerosciences Museum is located at the Schenectady Airport and is a unique hands-on museum that features the state’s largest aviation library. Visitors enjoy the restored aircrafts, exhibits and educational programs. Recent exhibits have included the lunar landing and Artic exhibits, the dePischoff flying motorcycle and aviation art.
